Louis Claude de Freycinet

Louis Claude de Freycinet (1779 – 1841) was born in France, and at the age of 14, he joined the French navy. His early stint with the navy occurred during the tumultuous years of the French Revolution. He was an ardent supporter of Napoleon Bonaparte and shared Napoleon’s interests in science, exploration, and cartography.

Namesake School: MU Lujan Elementary

Manuel Ulloa Lujan Elementary School, more commonly referred to as MU Lujan Elementary School, was built in 1973 and originally called Yona Elementary School. It was renamed two years later by public law in recognition of Lujan who was a longtime educator and public servant on Guam.

Namesake School: VSA Benavente Middle

Established in 1966 as Dededo Junior High School, Dededo Middle School was renamed Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle School on February 10, 1999. I Mina Bente Singko na Liheslaturan Guåhan/ the 25th Guam Legislature had passed a resolution supporting the then-Guam Board of Education’s intention to rename the school in honor of the educator turned civic leader.

Namesake School: BP Carbullido Elementary

Established in 1965, the Barrigada Elementary School was renamed the Baltazar P. Carbullido Elementary School, commonly referred to as BP Carbullido Elementary. Guam Public Law 08-82 was enacted on 14 January 1966, to honor the public servant and civic leader.
