Aline A. Yamashita earned her BA in human services and early childhood education from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts in 1978. She went on to earn a master of education at the University of Guam in 1981 and a doctorate in human development with minors in education and early childhood education from Oregon State University in 1985.
She has worked as a teacher, consultant, associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction and as deputy director of the Guam public school system, from 1978 until 1999. Yamashita was an assistant professor at the College of Education, University of Guam, as well as an adjunct professor at the University of Portland. From 2006 to 2009, as a program coordinator at Guam CEDDERS, she facilitated the development and adoption of a Teacher Mentoring and Professional Growth Program through Project Hatsa, Guam’s Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant. Dr. Yamashita was also a training associate with Guam CEDDERS and focused on early childhood and family initiatives within the Health, Wellness, Prevention area. In November 2010, Dr. Yamashita was successfully elected to serve as a senator in the 31st Guam Legislature.
